Another curious fact: Britain has a population of about 53 million, and its 2011 number of violent crimes (muder, rape, assault, etc. combined) was 624,000. America has a population of about 311 million, and its 2011 number of violent crimes was 1,204,000. That gives Britain roughly half as many violent crimes as the US, with only one-fifth the population.
