DR, to echo your main point about criminalisation not preventing criminals, the idea of God is highly interpretive and varied – for example the amount of killing in the name of God is legendary, utter carnage. So I don’t acknowledge that there is a place for God in the gun debate. To argue that the rule of law is pointless because it is broken by criminals is a bit like saying that we shouldn’t have schools because some kids never achieve basic literacy. I think the point is that some things are worth criminalising whether or not there is a high prevalence of breaking that particular law.
